AIR FORCE ENLISTED VILLAGE
COUPLES WAITING LIST FACT SHEET

PLEASE READ BEFORE CALLING TO ASK QUESTIONS

Teresa Village / Bob Hope Village

1. The waiting list for couples has grown to approximately 300. Because widows have priority for all apartments, the waiting list for couples is less than 2 years for an upstairs apartment, depending on apartment availability. 2 BEDROOM APARTMENTS AT BOB HOPE VILLAGE ARE OFFERED TO RESIDENTS OF BOB HOPE VILLAGE AND TERESA VILLAGE.
2. Teresa Village is a two story multi-building apartment complex without elevators. We have second floor residents who must move to the ground floor based on a doctor’s recommendation. This precludes our offering a ground floor apartment at TV to couples on the waiting list. Residents at Teresa Village may apply for a 2 bedroom apartment at Bob Hope Village when one is posted, however, priority is based on original lease date.
3. If you have been on the waiting list over five years and have not been offered an apartment it is probably because you must have a 1st floor apartment. Couples able to negotiate stairs move in before couples that stipulate 1st floor. It sometimes requires as many as 70 calls to lease an upstairs apartment. The more people we have to call, the higher their number will be on the waiting list. Example: #50 may accept an upstairs apartment, or as high as #150 before an apartment is leased.
4. Many of the couples ahead of you either cannot accept 2nd floor or are not ready to move. Couples decline apartments for many reasons: approximately 50% cannot negotiate stairs, but most often cannot move because of short notice. Therefore, we proceed to the next couple on the list.
5. Apartments are offered to couples that indicate they are ready to move now, per their yearly survey. Declining an apartment places the couple on the freeze list for 1 year, during which time they will not be offered an apartment. After one year, if the couple is offered and declines another apartment, they are placed at the bottom of the waiting list and must start over. Please give accurate survey responses. Advise Admissions of address and telephone changes by mail or call 850-651-9422. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the waiting list.
6. When an apartment is vacated, it is normally because of death or illness. This gives the Admissions Office as little as 2 weeks notice as to when a vacancy is going to occur. In many cases, you could have less than 30 days notice. 
7. Many couples start paying rent at Teresa Village for one or two months prior to moving in, to insure they have an apartment.
8. Surveys are mailed in January to update files and determine your intentions. Being offered an apartment depends on: 1.) apartment availability, 2.) your number on the list and 3.) your survey response as to when you want to move. By the time you are near #200, and if you’re serious about an apartment, you should be ready to move on short notice. If you designate anything other than “will move when called” or “as soon as possible” you are limiting your chances of being called. Stating “UNKNOWN” or leaving the response blank indicates you are not ready, and you will not be called.
9. If the sponsor passes away, the spouse need only submit a death certificate and give us a timeframe the spouse wishes to move. If the spouse predeceases the sponsor, the sponsor is not eligible to remain on the list to move to Teresa Village. If you are a resident and the spouse passes away, the sponsor is allowed to remain as long as he/she meets all requirements.
