2008 Ride for Military Widows set for Oct. 11

Military and civilian supporters of the Air Force Enlisted Village are gearing up for the inaugural “Ride for Military Widows,” a motorcycle poker run to benefit the AFEV. The event is scheduled for Oct. 11, and the poker run will take participants through some of the most beautiful parts of Northwest Florida , with the chance for riders to win more than $6,000 in cash and prizes.

“We expect riders from all over the Southeast,” said Liz LeMonds, deputy director of marketing and development. “It’s a great opportunity for our supporters to see the Air Force Enlisted Village, and to show off their bikes for a wonderful cause.”

The ride kicks off with a free breakfast for the first 300 participants at Bob Hope Village in Shalimar. The second stop on the run is Teresa Village , the AFEV’s Fort Walton Beach location. At both stops, riders will have the chance to meet residents, and to see first-hand how money donated to the AFEV is used.

Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd poker hands and the worst poker hand.
