FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How long is the waiting list to get an apartment?
A year or less, depending on eligibility for an Air Force Widow. Two to five years for a couple willing to take an upstairs apartment at Teresa Village. Space available list varies depending on apartment availability.

2. What is the square footage of the apartments?
Bob Hope Village: 1 BR– 650 sq. ft. 2 BR- 860 sq. ft.
Teresa Village: 1 BR—615 sq. ft. 2 BR– 880 sq. ft. 3 BR House– 1272 sq. ft.
Hawthorn House: 425 sq. ft.

3. May I have a washer and dryer in my apartment?
It would require a bathroom modification and that would be at the resident’s expense.

4. Am I eligible to move into a house at Teresa Village?
Houses are offered to current apartment residents first.

5. If I move into Teresa Village, how soon can I move into Bob Hope Village?
Times vary depending on availability.

6. May I park my motor home at Teresa Village?
No, there is no room at Teresa Village. There is limited parking space at Bob Hope Village. However, Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field both have RV storage lots on a first-come, first-served basis.

7. Will I be able to remain here if my husband passes away?
Yes.

8. Will I be able to remain if my wife passes away?
Yes.

9. Are there restrictions on the length of time I am on vacation?
You must reside in your apartment at least 6 months in a calendar year.

10. May I make changes to my apartment?
All changes must be approved by the Village Director and become property of the Village.

11. How soon will I be able to move into a first floor apartment?
Times vary depending on availability.

12. May our grandchild get married in the Teresa Village Chapel?
Yes.

13. May I have pets?
At Bob Hope Village and Teresa Village, small birds and fish only and with approval of management. No pets are allowed in Hawthorn House.

14. Do you allow smoking in the apartments?
We are a smoke-free facility.

15. May I have overnight visitors?
You are limited to 14 nights a year for in-apartment visitors. Guest quarters at Bob Hope Village are available for a modest fee.

16. Can my young grandchildren visit?
Yes, but they must be under constant adult supervision.

17. Is transportation provided?
There are scheduled trips to various shopping areas, the BX and Commissary and to local dental and doctor’s appointments.

18. What is the rent?
Monthly fees are determined by the size of the unit.

19. Are utilities included in my monthly fee?
Residents are responsible for electricity, phone, premium cable and internet services.

20. What do the utilities cost each month?
All apartments are all-electric. The average bill is $60 for electricity and $35 for phone service. Individual usage will affect these amounts.

21. Are meals included in the monthly fee?
No.

22. Is there an asset limit for me to move in?
No.

23. How do I get a subsidy or financial assistance?
Resident Air Force widows are the only ones eligible for rent assistance. Call the admissions office at 1-800-258-1413 for more information.

24. Am I allowed to bring my car?
One parking slot per apartment is available.

25. Are the apartments furnished?
Appliances are provided but other furniture is not.

26. Can I come for a visit before I apply?
Yes, we encourage visits. Call the Village Director to arrange your personalized tour.

27. Is there a storage area?
None of the Villages have an extra storage area. Storage units are available in the local community.

28. Is there an activities program?
Yes.

29. Is there a chapel?
Each Village has a chapel or Meditation Room. Services and time vary so check with the director.

30. Is there a beauty shop?
Yes, located in the Hawthorn House.  It is available for all AFEV residents.

31. What is the Criteria to be accepted at any of the Villages?

32. Is there a private dining area?
Areas are available for private family functions. They must be reserved through
the director’s office.

HAWTHORN HOUSE (ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENCE) QUESTIONS:

33. Is there a time limit for a person to stay at the Assisted Living Facility?
No.

34. How often is a doctor’s assessment needed for the ALF?
An initial assessment is completed by your doctor, then whenever a significant change occurs.

35. Is there a nurse on staff?
Yes. Our staff consists of Resident Assistants, Certified Nurse Assistants, Medication Technicians, and Licensed Practical Nurses. We are staffed around the clock.

36. Is there an examination room for visiting doctors?
Not at this time.

37. Is subsidy be available to surviving spouses from other military branches?
No, subsidy is available for Air Force enlisted surviving spouses only. For more subsidy information, contact the Admissions Office.

38. What does the monthly service fee cover?

It covers all utilities, basic cable, three meals per day, maintenance, housekeeping, activities, and transportation. Telephone and internet service are locally available at cost.

39. What about laundry?
A washer and dryer is centrally located in each of the four neighborhoods. Laundry services are available for a fee.

40. Is there an admission fee or any other fees to apply?

41. Can I see what an apartment looks like?
Yes, we have 2 guest apartments than can be toured unless occupied. You may also visit our virtual tour on this website.

42. Does a couple have to pay twice as much for a Hawthorn House apartment?
No, the monthly fee is based on the highest level of care provided to one applicant and a discounted fee for the second applicant.

43. If you move from Bob Hope or Teresa Village to Hawthorn House, can you ever move back if you no longer need assistance?
Yes. You will need a medical clearance from your doctor and will be placed on the waiting list for the Villages.

44. Are the apartments furnished?
No, the apartment offered are unfurnished however there is a kitchenette complete with refrigerator, freezer, and microwave.

45. Do you have other meals available beside the three regular ones?

We have occasional special activities that include refreshments.

 

 

46. How are the bathrooms/showers equipped?
The spacious bathroom has a walk-in shower with a soft pull down seat, adjustable shower head, and grab-on bars. An emergency call bell is situated next to the raised toilet. All bathrooms are ADA approved.

47. Is there a charge for meals for visiting guests?
Yes, the nightly rate is competitive/or less than local hotels.

48. Is there transportation to the Dolores Hope Chapel at Bob Hope Village?

Yes.

49. Does Hawthorn House have its own pharmacy?
Pharmacy services are available in-house for those requiring assistance with medication. Additionally transportation can be arranged fpr pick-up of medications from local pharmacies.

50. How can I apply?
Call the Hawthorn House admissions office at 850-609-2550, extension 115 for information. 

51. Is there some place to buy snacks and other items?
Yes, there is a “Country Store”, centrally located in the Atrium. It is stocked with household items, personal hygiene, snacks and drinks.

52. How much is the monthly rent?
Monthly fees are based on the level of assistance needed.

53. What about long-term care insurance?
Check with your insurance provider for details of coverage for assisted living.

54. May my family members live at this facility with me?

No, but we do have guest quarters available for visits.

55. What happens if my physical condition gets worse?
Every case is evaluated on an individual basis.

56. Do I have to live at Bob Hope or Teresa Village first?
No.

57. Do you have elevators?
Yes, there are two.

58. How many apartments are there?
62 regular apartments and 2 guest apartments.

59. Can I keep my car?
Yes.
