ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENCE
Hawthorn House has been a long standing dream for Air Force Enlisted Village residents as well as those associated with AFEV. The AFEV is dedicated to providing a home to the surviving spouses of those who so faithfully and gallantly served our country. While providing a home that serves our widows along the health care continuum, we also focus on augmenting an outstanding quality of life for all those who live here. To ensure our residents will be able to "age in place," we have built a state of the art assisted living residence on the campus of our headquarters and Bob Hope Village. No longer will widows have to leave their friends and familiar surroundings due to deteriorating health. Since Bob Hope and Teresa Village are independent living communities, once she was no longer able to handle all of her daily needs, she had to either go to an assisted living facility away from the Village or live with relatives. For many, this was a great loss, especially at an already difficult time. We now have our own Assisted Living Residence. It is located on the Bob Hope Village campus in Shalimar, FL. Now moving is only a “trip across the street.” Residents are still involved with all their familiar activities among familiar faces.
Hawthorn House has an activity plan specially designed for the physical levels of the residents. There is a library with internet access, activities room, cafe, and a country store. Our activities director ensures our residents as active a lifestyle as they choose. 
Hawthorn House features four wings of apartments on two floors linked to the main entrance and atrium. Two elevators provide easy movement for both residents and their guests. There are 64 one-bedroom apartments. There is a dining area associated within each wing, as well as an activity area. A Meditation Room provides a spot for quiet meditation and Bible study. An activities room is also available to enhance quality of life for our residents.
Each apartment comes with a small refrigerator and a microwave. All bathrooms are outfitted with shower seats and grab bars and are ADA approved. You provide your familiar furnishings to make it your own. The monthly fee covers three meals a day, water, sewer, garbage, maintenance, security costs and basic cable. Medic Alert pendants are available to all residents. Also covered is basic cleaning services and weekly linen laundry services. Telephone, premium cable and internet services are the resident’s responsibility. Prices vary depending the level of care provided.

Transportation is provided at no cost to scheduled doctor and dental appointments. Our bus has regularly scheduled trips to area shopping centers, the commissary, BX and base pharmacy. Occasionally trips are scheduled to various cultural events in the area, local restaurants and the beach.
